The windows are those from each route's “when to go” panel. “Works” means it can be done, with the caveats written there.
- The Billionaires’ Road
The Maloja is open all year; the Riviera is best in spring and autumn, when Monaco and Saint-Tropez are not full.
- The Arctic Road
20 November – 15 December: whales at their peak, Christmas already running in Rovaniemi. The whales stay until the end of January.
- The Whale Road
Leave on 1–5 July to catch the orcas at Tarifa in the last ten days of the month. The slow version: mid-June and six weeks.
- The Dragon Road
September: the Transfăgărășan still open, the crowds gone, the colour beginning in Maramureș. Before 1 July the Transfăgărășan is closed.
- The Danube Road
May and early June: the delta in full migration, the plain still green. July–August means mosquitoes in the delta and 40 degrees on the Bărăgan.
- The Rhine Road
May–June with the vines green, or September at the harvest — when the Rhein in Flammen fireworks run too. November–March, the castles close and the ferries run rarely.
- The Coaster Road
May–June and September: the parks open, the school holidays not yet begun or already over. In winter only Europa-Park and Phantasialand open.
- The Pass Road
July–September: every pass open, the snow gone from the road. The high passes open between late May and late June and close in October.
- The Harvest Road
From mid-October to the end of November, leaving around 20 October. Earlier, the south has not begun; later, the north has finished.
- The Cala Road
June or September: the water warm, the paths bearable, the car parks open. July–August only with the rule of the hour — on the beach before eight in the morning.
- The Triglav Road
June and September: the Vršič open, the Soča as warm as it gets, Bled without the crowd. November–April the Vršič is closed and the loop cannot be driven.
- The Dolomite Road
September: low light all day, the tourists gone, the snow not yet come. In summer, access to Braies, Tre Cime, Alpe di Siusi and Sella is restricted.
- The Fjord Road
June and early July: the mountain roads open, the waterfalls full of meltwater, the day without end. October–May, the Trollstigen and the Aurlandsfjellet close.
- The Icon Road
May–June and September: the green complete, low light on the walls, the coaches absent. In winter the monasteries are open and empty, and the Prislop needs winter tyres.
- The Lofoten Road
From late September to early November: nights long enough for the aurora, days long enough for the landscape. In summer it never gets dark; in winter there are four hours of light.
- The Border Road
June and September: the passes open, the green complete, neither the August heat nor the crowd. November–May, the Tourmalet closes with snow.
